The best way to reach Rishikesh is to first reach the national capital – New Delhi, from where you can get various transportation facilities.
By Air
The nearest airport from Rishikesh is the Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, which is about 20 Kms from the main Rishikesh Town. The airport handles many flights from Delhi on daily basis. The flight takes 50 minutes to reach Dehradun from Delhi; covering an aerial distance of about 200 Kms. The only train route to reach Rishikesh is through Haridwar. Located about 20 Kms from Rishikesh, Haridwar is a another tourist attraction and religious place, which is connected with direct trains from a number of major Indians cities including Delhi, Varanasi, Amritsar, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Kolkata and more. Many of these routes go through Delhi, and there are about 20 trains to reach Haridwar from Delhi. The train route between Delhi to Haridwar is about 250 Km and depending upon the speed of train and the route taken, it takes between 4 to 6 hours to reach Haridwar.
